On the 11th of November 2015, the very first German OSPAs event took place in Berlin. The event was set up in collaboration with ASW Bundesverband and supported by many other German security associations. The award ceremony itself, which included dinner, was attended by security professionals from all across Germany, as well as Dr. Hans-Georg Maaßen (president of the domestic intelligence service of the Federal Republic of Germany) and Michael Hange (president of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI)), who were both part of the judging panel. The founder of the OSPAs, Professor Martin Gill, was proud to be chosen as the keynote speaker for the night. The event was attended by over 100 people and gave the opportunity for outstanding security performers to be recognised and their success to be celebrated.
The criteria for OSPAs are based on extensive research on key factors that contribute to and characterise outstanding performance. This inaugural event in Germany attracted some impressive entries which were marked by the highly respected judges. After much deliberation they awarded the very first German OSPAs to:
